Treating Repetitive Stress Injuries with PST

The traditional treatment for repetitive stress injuries consists of:

  • Repetitive stress injuries e.g. from typing, respond to PST treatmentRest or rigid splinting of the affected area
  • Physical therapy and exercise to bulk up the muscles around the joint to protect it
  • Micro-current stimulation
  • Ergonomic devices
  • Over-the-counter or prescription diuretics and anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Corticosteroid injections, and ultimately... surgery

One of the most widely known repetitive stress injuries is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which impacts thousands of people each year who repeat the same hand motions - such as typing. The increased use of the computer keyboard and the control mouse has dramatically increased the number of patients experiencing wrist and hand injuries.

In the case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, pressure from repeated activity and overuse causes nerve damage. Nerve tissue is the most pressure-sensitive tissue in the body. Rising pressure in the carpal tunnel reduces blood flow to the nerve and repeated direct trauma can cause disruption of the nerve.

Repetitive stress therapy is non-invasiveOther workers, such as those in assembly plants and dental hygienists, experience repetitive stress injuries by producing the same rapid, repetitive and/or forced fine motor movement so often that it damages connective tissues and joint cartilage. The potential risk is increased when these activities occur while maintaining an awkward or fixed position. People with these injuries will typically experience aching, burning, numbness, weakness, swelling and/or tingling sensations that disrupt normal function.

Repetitive stress injuries, tendinitis and related cumulative trauma disorders can affect the neck, shoulder, forearm and hand, as well as bone, nerve and muscle. The problems are often hard to diagnose and often require the patient to see numerous physician specialists to seek relief for pain and other symptoms.

Many patients are able to find relief through Pulsed Signal Therapy. PST has been proven to reduce symptoms of repetitive stress and cumulative trauma injuries by stimulating the body's natural healing process. By signaling the body to reproduce cells to replace damaged tissue, PST reduces pain and the debilitating affects of these injuries - allowing patients to increase their physical function.
